Bend in The Missouri River - Booneville
This painting depicts a view that I know well - The view of the Missouri River, as seen from the nearby bluffs in Booneville. The painting was done on an exceptionally hot June afternoon, where the sun was so bright that the reflection off the white watercolor paper was blinding, but the moisture in the air was heavy, and the colors lush and vibrant. I tried to convey some of that heavy atmosphere in this painting.

Clouds over the River
5"H x 4.5"W
14cm H x 10cm W
This lithograph depicts the view across the Missouri River from the small town of Easley, right on the bank of the river. As the title suggests, the subject of the piece is not so much the opposite bank of the river, as the light fluffy clouds that fill the air above it.

Library Steps
11"H x 15"W
28cm H x 38cm W
Like many of my paintings and prints, this lithograph reproduces an image from my day-to-day life as a student that I always found interesting. In this case, the image was the illuminated dome of Jesse Hall (the administration building at MU). When they started the practice of lighting up this building at night, I was fascinated by the way the ghostly image of the dome could be seen from so many windows on campus, like some gigantic misshapen full moon. I did several paintings of Jesse Hall at night from different locations - This one was from the window of Ellis Library, right across the street

Creek

Creek
11"H x 8"W
27cm H x 20cm W
This is one of many nature landscapes done in Columbia, Missouri. The "Creek" in the title is Flatbranch Creek, which runs along the MKT nature trail. It is a subject that I have returned to several times with watercolors. It was drawn at twilight, with very little light, and I found it interesting that the scenery is defined almost entirely by the distorted reflections in the water.
